Here’s a sign that you’re burnt out…

A fairly simple thing goes wrong and you snap.

😫 Maybe an automated email failed to send

😥 Or there was a broken link on your website

🤯 Or you misspelt a word on your landing page URL and so none of that paid traffic converted

Whatever it was, it was simply the final straw.

You may think that you’re just stressed but you may be burnt out.

What’s the difference? I looked this up because, like you, I thought they were pretty much the same.

The best article I found put it this way: “Burnout is the accumulation of unchecked stress over a prolonged period of time”.

So in simple English, if you’re constantly feeling stressed and don’t do anything to address the source of that stress, you could end up being burnt out.

And here’s the scary thing about burnout in your biz.

It can quickly go from just feeling overwhelmed to feeling like you don’t care anymore, and maybe even starting to resent your business.

You find that you’re procrastinating, meaning tasks take longer to get through.

You know you need to show up online, but you spend the entire day dreading it.

You need a break but you’re afraid that if you slow down, you’ll disappear because the algorithm is ‘working against you’.

I know this because I spent a lot of the last few weeks feeling this way. At the risk of falling out of love with my business.

Now, I’m no expert but here’s what I did that’s helped:

💕 Set boundaries: I’m getting better at not responding to emails at 1am. It’s still a work in progress 😅

💕 Exercise: This helps to clear my head + get fresh perspective

💕 Take time off: Seriously. Just do it

💕 Delegate well and stop being a control freak: This is a BIG ONE for me. Even though my team is growing, I can’t help doing all the things! I had told myself that clients book us for Me and so I needed to be involved in everything. I’m slowly getting over myself 😅 and realising that I have a team that is more than capable. And that when I delegate well & trust them, the results are sometimes better than I could have done myself

Basically, whichever way you slice the pie, the answer is a resounding yes.

Let’s bring this home a bit.

It was my daughter’s birthday over the weekend and she wanted a unicorn cake.

Our local grocery store had one for £12. It was small, you couldn’t personalise nor customise it. But it was £12 so what else was I expecting right? Swipe to see this cake.

A specialist bakery also had a unicorn cake but they were charging £65. If you’re like my hubby, you’d be thinking “£65?! What’s the difference?”

That’s the killer question right? What’s the difference?

If they’ve priced their unicorn cake at 5x more than their competitor, what makes this cake so special?

I’ll tell you.

🦄 First of all, it’s bigger. You get more cake for your ££

🦄 It’s a multi-layer decadent sponge with flavours of vanilla, lemon, blackberry and strawberry, & a dash of fairy dust (copy from their site; versus “Unicorn celebration cake” on the grocery store site)

🦄 You can add a hand piped message

🦄 The website did an amazing job of making the cake look more appealing. They show a cut away so you could see all the layers + a video so you can salivate as you watch the cake being made

Now, if you’ve only budgeted £20 for a birthday cake, no amount of website copy/design would convince you to spend £65.

However, you certainly wouldn’t question that the second cake is worth £65 after you’ve seen the difference in how it’s been portrayed on their website.

And if you’re in the market for the best unicorn cake ever for your child’s birthday, then it’s probably a no-brainer that you would go with the 2nd option right, because it’s super clear the value you’re getting?

Do you get my point?

And can you see how some of you have a £65 expertly made cake, but you’re trying to sell it on a cheap looking website that makes your cake look like it’s only worth £12?

Let’s fix that.
